Historical Sketch: Christian Fellowship “Yo Soy” *

Christian Fellowship “Yo Soy” began meeting in Abbotsford in 1999. The Hispanic congregation was a church plant of the Conference of Mennonites in British Columbia and received funding from the conference’s Evangelism and Church Development Committee and several Mennonite congregations. They met on Wednesday evenings as a Hispanic Bible study and worship group at Clearbrook Mennonite Church, with 15-25 attending in 2001. The church’s vision was to create a church that was warm and more informal than other Hispanic churches, with a strong lay leadership.

The congregation had 7 members in 2001 when it formally joined the Conference of Mennonites in British Columbia. It was led by Pastor Neemias and Virginia Huezo. However, attendance declined to the point where the fellowship was no longer viable, and it was closed in 2003.
