January 21stMCBC Pastoral Highlight
Sunny Chan - Richmond Peace Chinese Mennonite Church

5 Fun Facts About Sunny:
- I was born and raised in HK, then migrated to Vancouver. But I find after counting the years, I have already lived in Canada for more than half of my life. I can proudly say I am a Canadian.
- I have always loved music and took some music classes during college. It was through God’s grace and music, that lead me to believe in Him.
- As a child, I never liked running, as I could not run for more than 5 minutes. But since 2017, I started practicing, and I can now run for a few hours continuously.
- I avoid having pets, so I don’t have to see them pass before me. The exception is fish, as I cannot hug them or train them.
- I once had a hilarious time skiing, I was hugging onto a tree while I was trying to jump with my limited skill. My friends all laughed!
Life and Ministry Update:
I really thank God for the opportunity to serve at Richmond Peace Chinese Mennonite Church, and I am excited to join the Mennonite family. I keep meeting new faces and learning about the ministries at the church. I am amazed to know God has been taking good care of this church that it could continue to run well for the last 2 years without a pastor. The annual theme of the church is “Connect one another with love, support each other and follow the footsteps of Jesus together”. As the only pastor in the church who is going to its 39th year, I am humbly learning how to lead the congregation by helping them to grow more spiritually, love one another more wholeheartedly and follow the footsteps of Jesus more faithfully.
There are already a few events planned for this year. One of the biggest events is “Summer Carnival” which is a great opportunity to invite non-church people to come to our church to learn more about Christian Faith through our many fun activities. This outreach event will need a lot of volunteers to work together. Please pray for the wisdom, unity, safety of everyone who will serve in this event and the guests that God opens their heart to know Christ. As a new Mennonite member, I would also love to learn more about Anabaptist/Mennonite traditions and how these traditions can help to shape the congregation.
