MCBC's 90th Year

Why This Network?

Did you know that this is MCBC 90th year? I will be sharing some of what we are and do together in the next few Connects.

Our Shared Mission

As Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 5:17-19, "All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation… And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation." We are called by God to be followers of Jesus Christ and, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to grow as communities of grace, joy, and peace so that God's healing and hope flow through us to the world.1

As local congregations, we are better when we work together. Mennonite Church British Columbia (MCBC) exists to enable our congregations to, individually and collectively, engage most fully in the mission of Christ. Through our shared resources, expertise, and spiritual support, we accomplish far more together than any single congregation could achieve alone.

Our Covenant Together

Recognizing that the church is one body with many parts (1 Corinthians 12:12), we as MCBC congregations have covenanted together to be united as one body. Our foundation is Jesus Christ, and Scripture is our fully reliable and trustworthy standard. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we move forward in unity and mutual accountability. This covenant includes:

  • Common Commitment to Shared Ministries – We commit to ministries that cannot be effectively accomplished as individual congregations or that are better done together, with focus on mission, leadership training, and education.
  • Common Commitment to Meaningful Worship and Fellowship – We commit to meaningful worship and fellowship among congregations that is Christ-centered, relationally oriented, and celebrative in nature.
  • Common Commitment to Mutual Accountability – We commit to mutual accountability in a spirit of humility and love, recognizing the need for ongoing dialogue between and among congregations and MCBC.
  • Common Commitment to Service – We commit to peace, justice, and service in support of MCC, MDS, and similar church-related service programs.

Through this covenant, we commit to support MCBC financially as a vital part of our church ministry, to participate in delegate sessions and theological discernment, to release people for service on MCBC committees, and to choose to believe the best about one another. Together, we accept and give direction, as we discern God's desires for our congregations and MCBC.
